Installing Network Printers
Example: HP9300 connected by USB to a Jetdirect print server.
The jetdirect print server can be interrogated by entering its IP address in a browser window. Its IP address can be changed as part of this process. Also suggest in the description indicate that the printer is attached to a jetdirect and also include its IP address.
Steps in installing this network printer:
- Download the HP network install Printer Wizard from the HP site (hpjsi_en.exe). Copy it to a shared folder where it is easily available. eg in the printers folder in the software shared folder.
- Run the software on each computer that requires access to network printer. Suggest logging on as local administrator when doing this. It is mainly a matter of clicking next or making fairly obvious choices while the wizard runs.
- Select the network printer you wish to use from the list of printers and IP addresses.
- Once the printer has been installed check the default printer is as you wish.
- You may have to refresh the Printers list to show the network printer.
- The fact it is a network (rather than shared) printer will be indicated by the printer icon having no network bar across the bottom of the icon.
- To save toner or ink I suggest not printing a test page but opening word, typing the number of the computer and then printing a sheet. A further advantage is that it is easy to check which computers printed successfully to the network printer.
