Online Maps and Satellite Images
Methods of producing maps with markers or flags - maps that can be a road map, a satellite map or the
road map superimposed on the satellite map
Using Frappr
Frappr is a mapping program whose aim is to keep in touch with friends, workmates etc.
Creating a map. I created Great Sandy Desert Map.
Login to Frappr
Under My Maps click on Create Map
Give it a name
Give yourself a marker
Create the map - you can format the map later.
Edited Map by entering and updating the Name, Centre Location, Zoom Level, Map type and size - selected largest size: 800x400
Markers (eg Places) can be added to the map by clicking the edit button for the Map Markers dialogue box.
Click Add Place tab: Type in the Place Name and Location. Click on Add Place - fill in the details - window does not close.
Says no markers yet! Tried the same process on another computer: Same lack of result.
Doing a google search showed that others had problems with markers also.
Using Flagr: Found it easier to work with than Frappr. Flags were easy to add, edit etc. One drawback - the flag location had to be found by moving over the map/satellite image - very time-consuming for places that are not covered in high resolution or where the road map is sketchy. Frappr gave the option of entering latitude and longitude.
Altogether I found Flagr more efficient.
There are three ways to share a map on the internet:
Platial: also offers satellite roadmap and hybrid maps. They are here and this is their blog
