Photocopiers

Photocopiers are becoming increasingly sophisticated offering:

  • Duplexing - two-sided copying
  • Networked - available as a network printer
  • Scanner - documents can be scanned as JPEG images or PDF documents which can be stored on the copier or emailed or transferred to networked computers.
  • On copier storage of documents.
  • Integrated Fax facility
  • Finishing Capability - collating, stapling even saddle stitching
  • Booklet production
  • Colour copying.

Issues to consider in making a decision to purchase a photo copier:

  • cost, in financial and training (time)involved in the purchase.
  • future issues Whether the increased sophistication and size of the copier will create difficulties for service and return of copier to supplier for major repair (an issue for remote sites).
  • Application of simpler technology Whether simpler solutions may ultimately be more used eg manual stapling of sets of notes, using stand-alone scanners, using a laser printer for colour printing.

Important:

Consider the Generation Effect . Each stage in a publishing process usually results in degeneration and loss of resolution in both text and image.
