Blogging

 

Blogs can be used in schools as:

  • Individual blogs where students can display their writings, poems, ideas, photos, art etc
  • Group blogs where student writing, opinions etc are published in a class context.
  • Group blogs where the blog entry is a query, discussion topic, image etc and students in the class add their contribution as a comment.

Different companies offer free and commercial blogs:

  • [www.blogger.com|Blogger: ] Blogs I have created at Blogger include barkcanoe- about my sabbatical travels in 2005 and barkochre- a blog about graphics. Blogs are free. Photos can be uploaded while editing the blog or uploaded using Hello!

 

  • BigBlog: A blogging service offered by Bigpond to its subscribers.  Worth looking at as the interface is easy to use and photo galleries are included. 10 Megabytes of storage is free. Note: 10 megabytes is not a lot of room for photos unless they are resized and compressed beforehand.  Note: I have started this one (but not spent any real time updating it)  vegemite.

 

 

Blogs with an Education or Class orientation:

 

  • Edublogs provides free blogging for Educators and students.  http://edublogs.org/ 

    Kit has a sample edublog at: http://kitblog.edublogs.org/   This blog has some links on how to use edublogs.  Edublogs are free though Campus blogs can be purchased (managing blogs for a school using school domain etc.  If you want to 

  • Class Blogmeister is designed for easy class management of class blogging.
  •  21 Classes has a sophisticated class versus individual and co-operative blogging.  Free with 2Mb limit per student blog or USD8.95 per month for 25MB per student blog etc.

Using a blog to provide a class summary of students' stories with links to each: Middle P Stories Online  Each story read by the student with video of their accompanying artwork.
